brokers-gin-1lBroker’s Gin is a true London Dry Gin made in a 200-year-old distillery located in the heart of England, using a traditional copper pot still. The internationally sourced botanicals are steeped for 24 hours in a quadruple-distilled pure grain spirit, which is then distilled for a fifth time. With a recipe as old as the distillery itself, this celebrated brand was the first gin ever awarded a score of 97 at the prestigious Ultimate Spirits Challenge.

The higher strength edition of Broker’s Gin weighs in at 47% ABV, and with it comes a creamy mouth feel and a boost in botanical character. It still maintains the powerful dryness, slightly herbal, spicy flavour profile balanced with citrus and, of course, it still has a bowler hat.

Broker’s Gin was launched in the 1990’s. Supposedly created based on an early 18th century recipe— botanically, probably not in terms of base spirit, the base spirit is clean and clearly column distilled— it’s known as one of the bigger juniper-forward classic-style gins on the market today.

And that hat.

Tasting Notes

Broker’s Gin is very flavorful and very bright. Sweet bright citrus on the nose, and a bright dose of juniper as well. Possibly a hint of spice and florals around the edges, but it maintains a straightforward classic approach with a nice bit of juniper character.

The palette is hot and spicy juniper. A good deal of heat and warmth. 94 proof, enough to keep you toasty on a winter’s eve. Starts with a hint of juniper before the citrus aromas absolutely flourish.

Nicely balanced with a slight sweetness akin to violet coming out, but it’s only slight. The fruit note here is well tempered and squarely in the sweet citrus camp. Juniper comes back for a second burst, this time bringing with it a hefty dose of heat and power. Nice flavor, and the closing is well balanced. There’s an earthy counternote that keeps the juniper from being too overwhelming. It fades pleasantly until all that remains is a little bit of heat.

Launched in 1998 by Andy and Martin Dawson who had a vision to create a classic London Dry Gin. Broker’s is a brand with personality and playfulness. Creators Martin and Andy Dawson chose the image of a bowler-hatted gentlemen – an archetypal stockbroker – to reflect the fact that historically England is the home of gin. Broker’s is a seriously good gin with a quirky marketing approach. “We love making seriously great gin cocktails, we just don’t take things all too seriously.”
